[PIO] Scientific Workshop on "Laboratory Microbiology" organized by the Ministry of Health

In the context of the training of health professionals and with a view to providing optimal care to all patients, the Ministry of Health organized a Scientific Workshop on "Laboratory Microbiology".

The workshop was held in collaboration with the Clinical Laboratory Council, on the occasion of the World Awareness Week on Antimicrobial Resistance and Proper Use of Antibiotics (18-24 November). The workshop was attended by more than 180 participants, representing 90 clinical laboratories from all provinces of Cyprus.

The workshop presented the international guidelines and laboratory protocols that should be followed by clinical laboratories to ensure the quality of the results they issue.

Special reference was made to the issue of the frequent use of antibiotics in our country and to the action plans implemented to better inform health professionals and citizens on this issue.

Finally, the possible future applications of molecular methods in the field of microbiology were presented.
