[PIO] Scholarship Award Event for Agricultural students at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment

A ceremony was held today, 24 November 2023, at the reception area of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, to award scholarships to students of agriculture at universities in Cyprus. The scholarships were for undergraduate students in the fields of Agricultural Production Science, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science or Food Science and Technology who secured an admission place during the academic year 2022 - 2023.

The scholarships are granted in the framework of the implementation of Investment 3, "Upgrading the skills of the existing rural community and professionalising the future workforce through investment in human capital" of the Recovery and Resilience Plan - Cyprus Tomorrow. The action falls under Component 3.1: New Model for Development and Diversification of the Economy, Sub-component 3.1.1.1 Resilient and competitive primary sector of the Plan.

The scholarships were awarded to the successful students by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr Petros Xenophontos. In his address, the Minister congratulated the students for their success. He said that the promotion of university training of new entrants to the agri-food sector, whether they will become competent agricultural advisors or farm owners and managers, will allow the introduction of innovation, a sustainable approach and, ultimately, a successful agro-economic model for the country's farms. Mr. Xenophontos announced the announcement of five scholarships for the academic year 2023 - 2024 that also cover studies in the field of agriculture, at universities in Cyprus and are funded under the Recovery and Resilience Plan - Cyprus Tomorrow.
