As part of the campaign launched on 28/8/2023, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, carried out targeted checks and inspections to combat undeclared and illegal work by third-country nationals.
During the four-week period from 28/8/2023 to 22/9/2023, the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance 418 inspections were carried out, mainly at construction sites, leisure centres and hotels.
The inspections covered 418 employers and examined 1387 employers of which 98 (7%) were undeclared. Of the 98 undeclared workers, 66% (67 persons) were foreigners from third countries.
Administrative fines totalling €157,900 were issued.
Of the 1387 employers, 36% (502 persons) were foreigners from third countries.
Of the 502 persons (foreigners from third countries) detected, 40.6% (204 persons) were illegally employed.
Demographic analysis by District. Of these 28 persons were illegally employed, two persons were with forged documents and three persons were illegal residents.
In Larnaca 29 illegal foreign workers from third countries were detected.
In Larnaca 29 illegal foreign workers from third countries were detected. Of these, 10 persons were illegally employed, four persons were with false documents and 15 persons were illegal residents.
In Paphos, 88 illegal foreign workers from third countries were detected. Of these, 30 persons were illegally employed, nine persons were with false documents and 48 persons were illegally resident.
In Nicosia, 54 illegal foreign workers from third countries were detected. Of these, 24 people were illegally employed, six people were with false documents and 24 people were illegally resident.
