[PIO] Representation of the Government at the celebrations for the National Anniversary of 1 April

On the occasion of the national anniversary of April 1, 1955, the President of the Republic, Mr.Nikos Christodoulides, will attend the solemn ceremony to be held on Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Apostle Barnabas Cathedral at 10:00 a.m. The Panegyric of the day will be delivered by the President of the Educational Service Committee, Mr. Panagiotis Antoniou.

Subsequently, the President of the Republic, accompanied by Ministers, will visit the Prisoners' Memorials at 11:00 a.m,

At 4:00 pm on the same day, Mr Christodoulides will attend the celebrations of the Association of Fighters of the Liberation Struggle 1955-'59, at the "ELEFTHERIA" Indoor Gymnasium.

In other cities/municipalities, the Government will be represented by the following. [*]In Larnaca, the Minister of Interior Mr. Constantinos Ioannou, at the Church of St. Lazarus, at 10:00 a.m. [*]In Paphos, the Minister of Health, Mr Michael Damianos, at the Metropolitan Church of St Theodoros, at 10:00 a.m. [*]In Paralimni the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mrs. Maria Panagiotou, at the Metropolitan Church of St. George, at 9:30 a.m. [*]In the Municipality of Agios Dometios, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Mrs. Marilena Evangelou, at the Holy Church of St. George at 10:00 a.m. [*]In the Municipality of Aradippou the Director General of the Ministry of Interior Mr. Elikkos Ilias, at the Holy Church of St. Luke the Apostle, at 9:30 a.m. [/LIST]

In communities of Cyprus, memorial services for the heroes of 1 April 1955 will be held as follows.

1. The Community of Liopetriou will hold the memorial service of the First Martyr of EOKA Modestos Pantelis, at the Holy Church of Panagia Eleousa, at 8:30 am.

   2. The Community of Chloraka will hold a memorial service for the Chlorakian Fighters of EOKA, at the Church of Panagia Chrysohematousis, on Sunday 31 March 2024, at 8:15 a.m. The President of the Republic will be represented by the Deputy Minister of Shipping Mrs Marina Hadjimanoli.
   3. The Community of Finion will hold a memorial service for the heroes of EOKA, Municipality of Irodotos and Efstathios Xenophontos, at the Holy Temple of Timios Stavros, at 8:30 a.m. The President of the Republic will be represented by the Commissioner for Mountainous Areas, Mr. Charalambos Christofinas.
   4. The Karavas-Lambousa Association will honour the hero Iakovos Patatsos, at the amphitheatre of the Laniteion Gymnasium in Limassol, on Sunday 31 March at 4:30 p.m. The President will be represented by the Commissioner for Gender Equality, Mrs. Josie Christodoulou.
