During yesterday's (09/05/24) regular briefing of the UN international media by the Deputy Spokesperson of the Secretary-General, Mr. Farhan Haq, the Associated Press correspondent reported that there was an announcement from Cyprus that the ship carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza had sailed to the United States pier. He asked Mr. Haq if an agreement had been reached between the United Nations and the United States regarding the UN's involvement in the distribution.

In his response, the Deputy Spokesman noted that discussions on this matter were ongoing and were ongoing, expressing the hope that they would be ready whenever assistance arrived at the pier. He also added that the World Food Programme is ready to distribute humanitarian aid if and when there is delivery to the pier and once there is agreement on how it will be distributed.
