During yesterday's (16.03.24) regular briefing of the UN international media by the Representative of the Secretary-General Mr. Stéphane Dujarric, the Cypriot correspondent referred to the recent statement by the Turkish President rejecting a solution to the Cyprus problem if the equal rights of Turkish Cypriots are ignored, insisting on a two-state solution. He asked the Representative to comment on the statement in light of the ongoing efforts of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Cyprus, Ms. Holguin, to find common ground between the two communities.
In response, Mr. Dujarric said: "We have seen the statement. Obviously we are continuing through the work of our Envoy and others to find that common ground for the sake of all the people in Cyprus and for the sake of both communities to resolve an issue that has been on the international agenda for some time."
