During yesterday's (07.03.24) regular briefing of the UN's international media, the Representative of the Secretary-General, Mr. Guterres' Personal Representative for Cyprus Ms. Maria Angela Holguin has any plans when she returns to Cyprus after completing her contacts in the UK.

Dujarric said that Ms. Holguin will go to Cyprus to meet with leaders of the two communities and with civil society. He pointed out that this is very important for Ms Holguin because she will be able to hear the views of a wider range of interlocutors and then submit her report to the UN Secretary General.

In response to another question, referring to the European Union working to establish a maritime humanitarian corridor to support people in Gaza, as well as Ursula von der Leyen's visit to Cyprus tomorrow, and her meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, she asked the Representative if she could comment on this effort.

In his reply, Mr. Dujarric stressed that Cyprus was distinguished for its useful and important work in the Middle East particularly on humanitarian issues. He added that this had been going on for decades and concluded that many senior officials of the United Nations International Organisation had visited Cyprus to discuss maritime issues with the Cypriot authorities.
