During yesterday's (12.02.24) regular briefing of the UN's international media, the Representative of the Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric, was asked by OMEGA correspondent Michael Ignatiou if he had anything to say about the meeting between the Greek Foreign Minister and the UN Secretary General. Dujarric noted that it was very nice that the meeting took place on the day that the full payment of Greece's debts to the UN was processed. He added that bilateral relations between Greece and the United Nations, the situation in Cyprus, as well as developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider region were discussed.
Ignatiou also referred to the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Cyprus, María Angela Holguín Cuéllar, noting that as far as he knows she has returned from her tour of Cyprus, Greece and Turkey. He asked Mr. Dujarric if he had anything to say about the results of the mission, whether she intended to go back to the island or if she was disappointed and decided not to return
The Representative replied that Ms. Holguín Cuéllar is an extremely experienced diplomat, stressing that he had no doubt that she would continue her mandate with enthusiasm. He added that he was not aware whether she was in New York or when she had had the opportunity to brief the Secretary-General.
