On the occasion of the International Day of Congenital Heart Diseases, which is celebrated internationally on February 14th, the Association of Parents and Friends of Children with Heart Disease is carrying out a variety of activities throughout the country during the current week, with the aim of informing and raising public awareness and thus supporting people with some form of congenital heart disease.

According to the World Health Organization, about nine out of a thousand children worldwide are born with a heart condition with the causes remaining unknown for 80% of cases. Nevertheless, congenital heart disease across the age spectrum can be diagnosed and treated in the majority of cases by qualified personnel using special ultrasound techniques and interventional methods. The great progress in imaging examinations due to technological advances plays an important role in the quality of life of patients with congenital heart disease.

It is worth mentioning that the Annual Meeting of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Adult Congenital Heart Disease will take place in Rotterdam next April.

The House of Representatives assures that it will continue to contribute to the long-standing effort to support heart patients by further strengthening the relevant legislation within the framework of the European acquis. Among the actions planned this week is the red illumination of the Parliament building on Monday, 14 February. In this symbolic way, Parliament expresses its support for all heart patients and their families.
