The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works (Department of Road Transport) announces the following in relation to the renewal of vehicle registration licences for the year 2022:
[*]Registration licences for the year 2022 will be renewed from Friday, 7 January 2022. [*]The last day for renewal is Friday, 11 March 2022. [*]Registration licences may be renewed for a period of three, six, nine and 12 months. [*]Marketing authorisations shall be renewed until Friday, 11 March 2022, free of charge. For renewals made after 11 March 2022, the sum of EUR 10 and an amount equal to ten per cent (10%) of the registration fee corresponding to the amount due for the current year shall be charged as a surcharge. [*]For the renewal of the licence there must be:
- Certificate of fitness
- Safety.
The Department of Road Transport advises everyone to arrange for the renewal of their vehicle registration in time to avoid possible overloading of the system that may cause inconvenience in the last days.
As a reminder, those who had renewed their vehicle registration for the year 2021, but do not intend to renew it for the year 2022 should submit a notice of vehicle immobilization to the TOM. The immobilisation can also be done online on the TOM website (Road Transport Department - www.mcw.gov.cy). Otherwise the obligation to pay the amount corresponding to the registration fee continues to exist.
Vehicles for which the registration permit for the year 2021 has not been renewed and which have not been registered as immobilised will be removed from the TOM register if the amount due for the year 2021 is not paid and the registration permit for 2022 is renewed by Friday, 11 March 2022.
In case of vehicle destruction, a vehicle registration cancellation application (form TOM 98A) accompanied by the "Certificate of Destruction" issued by licensed vehicle waste treatment facilities must be submitted to the TOM to exempt the vehicle owner from the obligation to pay registration fees from the date of vehicle destruction.
Registration permits can be renewed throughout the year, online, at Banks, CCPs, Provincial offices of the Department of Postal Services and provincial offices of the TOM.
Finally, it should be noted that no notifications will be sent to vehicle owners for the renewal of registration permits.
