[PIO] Regarding safety at the Vasilikos energy centre

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Ports Authority, Dr. Stylianou chaired on 3 February 2022 a meeting at the Port of Vasilikos with the participation of the Police and the Fire Service on security issues at the Vasilikos Energy Centre.

The meeting was held following explicit instructions given at an enlarged meeting held on 17 January 2022 at the initiative of the President of the Republic Mr.

The meeting in Vasilikos was held on 17 January 2022 at the initiative of President Nicos Anastasiades and the results of the 7th Inter-ministerial Committee on Vasilikos held at the Ministry of Energy on 26 January 2022 with the participation of the Ministers of Energy, Trade and Industry, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works and the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.

The meeting in Vasilikos concerned precisely the security issues related to both the wider area and the security within the port area, which is under the responsibility of the Cyprus Ports Authority as a civil protection authority. As part of the implementation of these directives, it was decided to conclude a specific protocol with the Cyprus Police and joint actions with the Fire Service, with the contribution of the Security Service of the Cyprus Port Authority.

Based on the above, a new meeting was held in the form of an interactive information and training session on 7 February 2022 at the Port of Vasilikos, in which it was decided to immediately implement the agreed measures aimed at strengthening security in Vasilikos.
