The Commissioner for Administration and Human Rights Protection, Ms Maria Stylianou-Lottidi, has been re-elected to the Governing Board of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM).

In particular, in a recent election process for the new AOM Governing Board, among its members representing the wider geographical area of the Mediterranean, the Commissioner was elected for the second time to the AOM Governing Board.

The Greek Ombudsman Mr. Andreas Pottakis was re-elected President. The term of office of the members is three years.

It should be noted that the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (Ombudsmen) is made up of 28 countries from three continents, and its members are counterparts from Southern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans and the Black Sea.

The AOM aims to protect and promote human rights, as well as respect for and consolidation of democratic principles and social justice, in a spirit of solidarity and good cooperation between neighbouring countries. It plays an important role in the international diplomatic arena and is actively involved in the formulation of policies concerning, inter alia, migration/refugee issues, as well as in the implementation and improvement of the rule of law.

In addition to the Ombudsmen (Commissioners of Administration), the AOM Governing Board includes as permanent observers international organisations and bodies that share the same principles and values as the AOM, such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, the European Ombudsman, and representatives of the International Organisation of Francophonie and the Arab League.
