At yesterday's regular briefing of the international media of the United Nations (UN), the Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General Ms. Florencia Soto Niño was asked by a reporter to explain what the mandate of the Secretary-General's Envoy for Cyprus Ms. María Angela Holguín Cuéllar will be, as well as the duration of her mandate.
Ms. Soto Niño in her response stressed that she knows nothing more than what was announced at the time of her appointment, which is to seek common ground on the way forward and to advise the UN Secretary General on the Cyprus issue. He also added that Ms. Holguín Cuéllar intends to take up her duties soon and will inform journalists if she has any news.
