The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry announces that, as of January 3, the draft bill regulating the operation of cottage industry units, as well as their effective control, has been submitted for public consultation. The draft bill has been prepared in cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities and other relevant ministries.
It sets out the conditions and requirements for the processing production and sale of small quantities of cottage industry products, as well as the conditions for the compulsory registration of cottage industry establishments in the register to be kept for this purpose. With the institutionalisation of the cottage industry, small units carrying out their work from home will be able, by registering in the Register, to obtain sponsorship and sell their products on the retail market, which is expected to help the development of entrepreneurship in rural areas, especially in the sectors of traditional products, but also to retain and attract population, especially in mountainous areas.
The informal consultation of the bill entitled "The Law on the Conditions and Requirements for the Production, Processing and Distribution of Cottage Industry Products and Establishment of a Register of Cottage Industry Establishments of 2022" will last until 31 January 2022, the final date by which any proposals and suggestions should be submitted. Subsequently, the bill will be submitted to the Legal Service for legislative review.
Those wishing to participate in the informal consultation may complete and submit, at iheracleous@meci.gov.cy, the special form posted on the website of the Department of Industry and Technology www.meci.gov.cy/sit.
