[PIO] Press Release of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications and Works

The Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications and Works met today, Thursday, 10 February 2022, and discussed the following matters:

1. The Merchant Shipping (Issue and Recognition of Certificates and Maritime Training) (Amendment) Act, 2021.

The Committee began debate in principle on the above Bill, the purpose of which is to amend the principal Act in order, inter alia, to achieve the upgrading of maritime education by regulating the operation and status of Maritime Training Academies in the Republic, and the more effective implementation of the International Convention on Standards of Training for the Issue of Certificates and the Keeping of Seafarers' Watches (STCW Convention).

The representatives of the Executive briefly presented the main amendments included in the bill. The discussion of the bill will continue at the next meeting of the Committee.

2.The problems and reactions in relation to the last part of the project in Kappari Paralimni and the possible solutions that can be found in order not to affect the implementation schedule of the project.

(Ex officio examination following a recommendation by Mr. (File No. 23.04.039.024-2022)

The Commission began the discussion of the above-mentioned matter under the ex officio procedure, in the context of which it examined the problems that the implementation of part of the project might create for the owners of adjacent plots. The discussion will continue at a subsequent meeting of the Commission, in the presence of the political heads of the relevant ministries.
