The Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women began today, Monday, 14 February 2022, the debate on "Gender-based violence: Protocols for dealing with victims, police investigation of complaints, training of judges on gender-based violence and media coverage" (File No. 23.04.039.035-2022), which was registered under the ex officio procedure, following a motion by Irini Charalambidou, George Koukoumas, Rita Theodorou Superman, Fotini Tsiridou and Alexandra Attalidou.
In the context of the meeting and on the occasion of the recent acquittal of the Court of Appeal for the offence of public harm, the Commission was informed about the existing procedures and protocols regarding the handling of victims of offences involving the element of gender violence. The Committee also highlighted the need for training and specialisation of persons who come into contact with victims of gender-based violence crimes and asked the relevant State agencies to submit in writing specific statistics.
