The Parliamentary Committee on Health met today, Thursday, 10 March 2022, and discussed the following matters:

1.The Registration of Music Therapists and Other Related Matters Act, 2021.

(Bill proposed by Mr. Efthymios Diplaros, Savias Orphanidou and Charalambos Pazarou, on behalf of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Rally, Panikos Leonidou and Chrysanthos Savvidis, on behalf of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party, and Christos Christou, on behalf of the National Popular Front)

(No. Fak. 23.02.062.133-2021)

The Committee, in the presence of representatives of the competent services, continued the article-by-article discussion of the above proposal for a law, the purpose of which is the legislative regulation of the exercise of the profession of music therapists. Having concluded the debate, the Committee decided to take a position on the revised bill at its next meeting.

2.The Pharmacy and Poisons (Amendment) Act, 2022.

(Bill on behalf of the Parliamentary Committee on Health)

(Fak. No. 23.02.063.016-2022)

The Committee, in the presence of representatives of the relevant departments, began discussion of the above proposed legislation, the purpose of which is to amend the Pharmacy and Dispensaries Act so that the obligation to employ a full-time pharmacist in nursing homes - which are not required to maintain a hospital pharmacy on their premises - would be imposed on nursing homes that have more than twenty beds, instead of five, as is currently the case. The proposed amendment is deemed necessary because the cost of employing a full-time pharmacist in charge is disproportionate to the capabilities of small-scale nursing homes. The Committee proceeded to an article-by-article discussion of the proposed legislation and decided to take a position on an amended text at its next meeting.
