[PIO] Press Release of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs

The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs met today, Tuesday, 1 March 2022, and discussed the following issues:

1. The European Associate State Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the European Space Agency (Enactment) Law of 2022.

The Commission has been informed of the above bill, the purpose of which is to ratify the European Associate State Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the European Space Agency (ESA), signed on 19 November 2021 in Matosinho, Portugal. The Agreement is the second stage of cooperation with the ESA and aims to prepare European countries, by further strengthening their national space ecosystems, for joining the ESA.

The adoption of the bill is a precondition, according to paragraph (2) of Article 169 of the Constitution, for the entry into force of the Agreement.

2. The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the Government of the Republic of Serbia on Cooperation in the Field of Disaster Protection (Enforcement) Law of 2022.

The Commission has been informed of the above bill, the purpose of which is to ratify the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the Government of the Republic of Serbia on Cooperation in the Field of Disaster Protection, signed on 2 July 2021 by the Republic of Cyprus, following the Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 91.436 dated 24 June 2021. The passing of the bill is a precondition, according to paragraph (2) of Article 169 of the Constitution, for the entry into force of the Agreement.

3. The Council of Europe Convention on Counterfeiting of Medical Products and Similar Offences Constituting a Threat to Public Health (Enforcement) Act, 2021.

The Commission has been informed of the above bill, the purpose of which is to ratify the Council of Europe Convention on Counterfeiting of Medical Products and Similar Offences which constitute a Threat to Public Health, signed on 28 October 2011 by the Republic of Cyprus following the Council of Ministers Decision No. 87.321 dated 17 April 2019. The enactment of the Bill is a precondition, in accordance with paragraph (2) of Article 169 of the Constitution, for the Convention to enter into force.
