[PIO] Press Release of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budget

The Parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee met today, Monday, February 21, 2022, and discussed the following matters:

1. The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation Budget Law of 2022

(File No.: 23.01.063.038-2022)

The Committee began discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to authorize the payment from the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation Fund of an amount of €37,217,500 for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2022.

The Committee began discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to authorize payment from the fund of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation in the amount of €37,217,500 for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2022.

The Committee, having been informed by the representatives of the Cyprus Radio and Television Foundation on the individual expenditures included in this budget, as well as on the strategic planning and objectives of the Foundation, decided to take a position on the proposed budget at its next meeting.

2. The Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority Budget Law of 2022

(Fak. No. 23.01.063.042-2022)

The Committee began discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to authorize payment from the fund of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) in the amount of €3,168,820 for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2022.

Having been briefed by the representatives of the Authority on the individual costs included in this budget, as well as on the strategic planning and objectives of RAEK, the Committee decided to take a position on the proposed budget at its next meeting.

3. The Budget of the Transmission System Operator of Cyprus 2022 Law of 2022.

(No. Fak. 23.01.063.044-2022)

The Committee began discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to approve the appropriations of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) in the amount of €10,067,000 for the financial year ending 31 December 2022.

The Committee, having been informed by the representatives of the TSO on the individual costs included in this budget, as well as on the strategic planning and objectives of the TSO, decided to take a position on the proposed budget at its next meeting.

4. The National Gaming Authority and Casino Supervision Authority Budget Law of 2022

(Fak. No. 23.01.063.043-2022)

The Committee began discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to approve the payment from the National Gaming Authority and Casino Supervision Authority fund of €2,896.290 for the financial year ending 31 December 2022.

Having been briefed by the representatives of the Authority on the individual costs included in the said budget, as well as on the strategic planning and objectives of the Authority, the Committee decided to take a position on the proposed budget at its next meeting.

5. The Council for the Registration and Control of Building and Engineering Contractors Budget Act, 2022

(Fak. No. 23.01.063.030-2022)

The Committee began discussion of the above bill, the purpose of which is to authorize payment from the fund of the Council for the Registration and Control of Building and Engineering Contractors in the amount of €1,015.508 for the financial year ending 31 December 2022.

Having been informed by the representatives of the Council of the individual costs included in the said budget, as well as the strategic planning and objectives of the Council, the Committee decided to take a position on the proposed budget at its next meeting.

6. Decommitments and Exemptions from the prohibition on filling vacancies

The Committee considered a number of requests for decommitments and exemptions from the prohibition on filling vacancies.

The decommitments concern:

1. the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth,

2. the Internal Audit Service,

3. the National Audit Office,

4. the Department of Energy, Trade and Industry,

5. the Home Office,

6. the Treasury,

7. the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment,

8. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

9. the Ministry of Justice and Public Order,

10. the Education Service Commission,

11. The Public Service Commission,

12. the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.


The exceptions to the prohibition on filling vacancies relate to:

1. the University of Cyprus,

2. the Office of the Commissioner for Administration and Protection of Human Rights,

3. the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works,

4. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

5. the Municipality of Larnaca,

6. the Municipality of Engomi,

7. the Municipality of Strovolos.
