The Parliamentary Committee on Education and Culture met today, Wednesday, 2 March 2022, and discussed the following issues:
1. The University of Cyprus (Tuition Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 2021.

The Committee began discussion of the above regulations, the purpose of which is to establish a framework for the provision of undergraduate programmes of study in a language other than the official languages of the Republic by the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus University of Technology, and to determine the amount of tuition fees to be paid by students for attending these programmes of study. It is noted that the above regulations were also discussed by the Committee in the previous parliamentary term, but it was not possible to complete their study. Consideration of the regulations would continue at the next meeting of the Committee.
2. The University of Cyprus (Student Affairs and Academic Matters) (Amendment) Regulations 2021.

The Committee began discussion of the above regulations, the purpose of which is to determine the method of admission of students to undergraduate programmes of study in a language other than the official languages of the Republic to be offered by the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus University of Technology. It is noted that the above regulations were also discussed by the Committee in the previous parliamentary term, but it was not possible to complete their study. The examination of the regulations will continue at the next meeting of the Committee.
3. The Law on the Establishment of the State Ministry of Culture and the Appointment of the Deputy Minister of Culture under the President and Related Matters Act, 2022

5. The Cyprus Library (Amendment) Law of 2021.

6. The Cyprus Theatrical Organisation (Amendment) Law of 2021.

The Committee considered the amendments tabled to the above bills, in accordance with the procedure provided for in Rule 54 of the Rules of the House of Representatives, the purpose of which is:
1. the adoption of legislation for the establishment of a Deputy Ministry of Culture and the appointment of a Deputy Minister of Culture under the Presidency and the transfer to the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, the Department of Antiquities of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, the Cyprus Handicrafts Service of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry and part of the activities of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation;
2. the renaming of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth as the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and the amendment of all laws, regulations, decrees and public documents relating thereto,
3. the amendment of the Cyprus Library Law to comply with the Law on the Establishment of a Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Appointment of a Deputy Minister of Culture under the President and Related Matters;
4. the amendment of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation Law to comply with the Law on the Establishment of a Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Appointment of a Deputy Minister of Culture under the President and Related Matters;
4. the amendment of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation Law to comply with the Law on the Establishment of a Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Appointment of a Deputy Minister of Culture under the President and Related Matters.
The Committee decided to continue the study of the amendments at its next meeting.
7. The Youth Agency Budget Act of 2022

The Committee took a position on the budget provisions and decided to refer them to the full session.
8. The Budget of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts 2022 Law of 2022.
