The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources met in extraordinary session today, Friday, 4 February 2022, to continue the debate on the subject registered under the ex officio procedure "Information on the problems encountered in relation to the marketing of haloumi as a product with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and measures to support producers" (No. File No: 23.04.038.680-2021) in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, representatives of the Legal Service of the Republic, as well as affected stakeholders. The discussion focused on the marketing of chalume as a PDO product and the need to draw up a comprehensive plan to support producers, given the accumulation of chalume stocks in the Republic as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Commission decided to monitor the progress of the issue and to continue its discussion at a later stage.
