A press conference on the Action "Careers: The World of the Labour Market and Professions", which is organised by the Counselling and Vocational Education Service (Y.S.E.A.A.).) of the Directorate of Secondary General Education (DGE) of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY), in cooperation with the Pancyprian Confederation of Associations of Public Secondary School Parents' Associations.
Initially, Dr. Irene Rodosthenous, First Officer of Education and Head of the Y.S.E.A., welcomed the attendees and then stated that the aim of this flagship action is to build bridges between school and the labour market and to give our young people the opportunity to reflect on their aptitudes and interests, to orient themselves according to the new trends of the modern Cypriot labour market.
Then, the Director of Secondary General Education, Dr. Kyprianos Louis, who represented the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, among other things, stated that "Careers" aims to provide information to pupils, students, parents and the general public on professions, professional rights and employment prospects in the modern Cypriot labour market. He praised the work of the Counselling and Vocational Education Service for the services it offers to students on personal, educational and professional issues and mentioned that the Service, through its teachers, supports, encourages, informs, organizes numerous targeted events and implements numerous professional orientation activities for students, parents, teachers and anyone interested. He noted that "Careers" is under the auspices of the National Lifelong Guidance Agency, which is coordinated by the Y.S.E.A.
This action will take place on 9 and 10 December 2023, at the Filoxenia Conference Centre, in Nicosia, between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The Director of Secondary General Education expressed his thanks both to the Professional Associations/Bodies for their close cooperation and active involvement in the implementation of this institution, and to R.I.K. for being the communication sponsor of the action. The "Careers" will be attended by representatives of more than 50 reputable Professional Associations/Carriers, who will offer information about their profession at "stations" or in lectures.
Subsequently, the President of the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Associations of Parents' Associations of Public Secondary Schools, Mr. In his address, Mr. Loizos Constantinou noted, among other things, that there is a need for information to young people on career guidance issues and the "Career" action will contribute positively to the decision making process for their future career path. He noted the excellent cooperation of the Pancyprian Confederation of Parents with the Counselling and Vocational Education Service (Y.S.E.A.) and thanked them for their cooperation on many levels.
The press conference was attended by representatives of the Directorates of the Ministry of Education and Training and Professional Associations/Bodies that will participate in "Careers".
