The Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Mr George Papanastasiou, announced today, at an event held in Nicosia, in the presence of representatives of business organisations and consumer associations and organisations, the new policy on business offers and discounts.

In support of this policy, a specialised "Business Guide for Discount Promotion Practices", which has been made available to stakeholders and aims to guide businesses in relation to specific practices they apply to promote their products. In addition, the Guide can serve as a tool to inform consumers of their rights so that they can effectively assert them.

It should be noted that the need for the adoption of the new policy arose mainly from the Office's actions (audits, training, new legislation), as they revealed the need for more general guidance for businesses in order to establish specific principles that all traders must respect for the purposes of uniformity and the smooth functioning of the market.

On this occasion, the Consumer Protection Office invites businesses to study and correctly apply the provisions of the Guide, considering the initiative of drafting it as an action that will favour the proper functioning of the market and enhance the protection of consumer rights.
