In the framework of supporting young professionals and students in the shipping industry, YoungShip Cyprus, in cooperation with the "Supply Chain Management and Maritime Studies" Programme of the Public School of MIEEK, the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, recently launched the pilot project "Mentoring".
The aim of the programme is to better prepare students for joining the labour market. In the first activity, "Career Day", which took place at the offices of Fameline Holding Group, members of YoungShip Cyprus talked to the students of the Supply Chain Management and Maritime Studies Programme about the operations and daily life in different departments of shipping companies. The fifteen-minute group rotation gave the students the opportunity to hear information about all the departments represented.
The next activity is scheduled for the beginning of the new year 2024, with the topic "Preparing for an Interview".
Ms. Lina Ellina, Coordinator of the Programme of Studies "Supply Chain Management and Maritime Studies", thanked YoungShip Cyprus and expressed her satisfaction with the "Mentoring" programme, which is the culmination of the long-term cooperation of the Programme of Studies with this Organisation. "The Mentoring programme is a unique opportunity for our students", said Ms Ellina, "to network with young professionals in the industry and to feel that they have support, in addition to the support they receive from their School, in their efforts to prepare themselves as best as possible for finding a job in the maritime industry".
The President of YoungShip Cyprus, Mr Andreas Christoforou, said that the aim of the organisation is to strengthen the knowledge and skills of young people, while promoting their voice in decision-making centres at national and international level. He added that "our role is to promote the young generation in the maritime sector by providing them with information and organising activities that help them to strengthen their skills, as well as to acquire new knowledge and experience. Young people are Cyprus' most important asset and it is in them that we must invest. Through our activities, we offer our members the opportunity to expand both their personal and professional contacts, as well as to be educated, informed and trained on issues affecting the shipping sector locally and globally".
