On 9 March 2022, the Nicosia District Court imposed a financial penalty on a football player of the C' League of the CUP, with the defendant being found guilty in relation to offences in breach of the Law 180(I)2017 on Combating the Manipulation of Sports Events.
The case was filed with the Court after the Attorney General of the Republic, Mr. George Savvidis sent a letter in February 2021 to the Chief of Police, in which he asked for an immediate investigation, for the possible commission of criminal offences, of the complaints made to the media by the President of a third division football club, which were directed against players of his team and other sporting agents of the third division football league.
