[PIO] Participation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives at the Political Leaders Summit in Athens

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Anita Demetriou, in her capacity as Ambassador of the Political Leaders' Network (WPL) on behalf of the House of Representatives, will travel to Athens tomorrow to participate in the Political Leaders' Summit on "Democracy for the 21st century". The Summit is under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou and will take place between 19 and 21 March 2024.

The Summit will be addressed by leaders of various countries and officials of international organizations. The Speaker will be a keynote speaker at the roundtable discussion on "Reinventing Leadership for the 21st Century."

The Summit will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing modern democracies globally, as well as the need to adapt to the rapidly changing environment in light of the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mass Media. In particular, the impact of TN on political decision making and leadership and ways of harnessing TN for the benefit of democratic governance will be examined. Other issues that will be addressed at the Summit include the importance of strengthening women's representation in positions of power in order to create resilient democracies, and combating violence against women in politics. The role of political parties in enhancing citizen representation and participation, the need to meet citizens' expectations and restore their trust in public institutions will also be discussed.
