The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Mr. Yiannis Panayiotou participated today in the meeting of the Employment and Social Policy Council (EPSCO) of the European Union (EU) in Brussels and in a joint meeting with his counterparts from Poland, Ms Agnieszka Ewa Dziemianowicz-Bąk, and Denmark, Ms Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen, who make up the trio of European countries that will hold the Presidency of the Council in succession in the coming period, and held a bilateral meeting with the new Minister of Labour and Social Security of Greece, Ms Domna Michailidou.
In a statement after the Council's proceedings today, Mr. Yannis Panayiotou said.
We agreed to better regulate the labour rights of workers on digital platforms, with the adoption of the relevant Directive after long consultations during which Cyprus had a positive attitude from the beginning, and we confirmed that through dialogue we can all find common solutions to complex issues.
With my counterparts, the Ministers of Poland and Denmark, we had a very productive preparatory meeting, where we found that we have common approaches and share the same willingness for constructive cooperation as the trio of European states that will take over the Presidency of the Council in succession.
Furthermore, in the context of a bilateral meeting with my Greek counterpart, we discussed issues of common interest, focusing on the use of technology to better control the labour market and improving the response to the demands of our citizens regarding the payment of shared pensions."
The work of the Council will continue during the day tomorrow, when the issue of wage adequacy in the context of a growing economy will be discussed, while the Minister of Labour, Mr. Panagiotou will represent the Government at the joint meeting of the EU Council of Finance and Employment Ministers (ECOFIN - EPSCO), where economic and social policy issues will be discussed.
