[PIO] Participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the 8th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean in Barcelona on 26-27 November

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos participated in the proceedings of the 8th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean, held in Barcelona, Spain, on 26 and 27 November 2023.

The discussions focused on developments in the Middle East, the need to avoid a regional deterioration of the crisis, and the urgent humanitarian needs of civilians in Gaza.

Intervening in the discussion, Mr. Combos welcomed the release of hostages made possible in the context of the humanitarian pause. He noted that the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages by Hamas is imperative. He noted that the humanitarian pause would provide an opportunity for unimpeded humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Gaza. In this context, he reiterated the readiness of the Republic of Cyprus to contribute to the provision of humanitarian assistance through our initiative to establish a maritime corridor for the transfer of humanitarian aid from Cyprus to Gaza. In particular, Mr. Kobos met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mr. Sameh Shoukry and Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
