Finance Minister Makis Keraynos is travelling to Spain to participate, on Friday and Saturday, in the informal meetings of the Eurogroup and Ecofin.
In particular, Mr. On Friday and Friday, Mr. Kerynos will participate in the informal meeting of euro area finance ministers, where Eurogroup members will exchange views with Irene Tinagli, chair of the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Policy Committee, on macroeconomic developments in the euro area, following the presentation by the European Commission of the summer (interim) economic forecasts. The European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Commission are also expected to brief ministers on monetary policy.
The informal Ecofin Council in Spain will focus on the interaction between monetary and fiscal policy and how both can address current challenges, as well as future priorities to achieve the EU's strategic objectives for the green and digital transition.
Ministers are also expected to exchange views on the preparation of the EU's monetary and fiscal policy. The meeting will discuss ways to further implement the Global Gateway investment agenda agreed by EU and CELAC leaders at the summit last July, as well as the growing financing needs of vulnerable countries in the light of the difficult geopolitical context, recognising the important role the EU can play in this area.
