Finance Minister Makis Kerynos will travel to Luxembourg on Sunday, October 15, 2023, in order to participate, on Monday, October 16 and Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in the Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings.
Mr Thunder will participate in the enlarged Eurogroup meeting, with the participation of US Treasury Secretary Ms Janet Yellen. Finance Ministers will have the opportunity to exchange views with their US counterpart on global economic challenges and prospects, also in the light of the latest geopolitical developments. Furthermore, the Eurozone Finance Ministers will exchange views on the implementation of the 2023 euro area recommendations, as well as on the contribution of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism to the policy objectives of the euro area.
On Tuesday, the Finance Minister will represent Cyprus at the Ecofin Council meeting, where Ministers will have the opportunity to exchange views on the European Commission's proposals for the review of the economic governance framework, with a view to building convergence on the European Commission's proposals for the revision of the economic governance framework. The Council will also be updated on progress in the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, and is expected to approve revised recovery and resilience plans for 5 member states, which include additional measures to address the new challenges posed by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Finally, the Council will be updated on progress in discussions on funding for Ukraine in the context of the mid-term review of the EU's multiannual budget.
