The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Dr Athena Michaelidou and the Deputy Minister for European Affairs Ms. Marilena Raouna visited today the Koutsofta and Panagidis-Paleometochou Lyceum, to hold an interactive discussion with students, which was organised in the framework of the activities taking place on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Cyprus' accession to the European Union.
During the discussion, the students of the school had the opportunity to exchange thoughts and views with the Minister and the Deputy Minister on the benefits of their participation in European programmes, as well as on their expectations and vision for a common European future.
One of the conclusions of the discussion is that the participation of young people in European programmes is essential, as it makes a decisive contribution to the objective of modernising the education system through contact with other countries, cultures, civilisations and other education systems, allowing the exchange of ideas and modern educational methods, teaching materials and good practices. In addition, they promote skills, competences, critical thinking and foster creativity, artistic expression and the unique talents of students, creating the conditions for further development of society.
The debate concluded that young people can and should have a role and a voice in shaping a better Union that serves and responds to the needs of its citizens.
