[PIO] Participation of the Minister of Defence Mr.Haralambos Petridis at the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brest

Today, Wednesday, 12 January 2022, the Minister of Defence, Mr.Charalambos Petridis, will travel to Brest, France, to take part in the work of the Foreign Affairs Council, in the framework of the French Presidency of the European Union. The Ministers of Defence of the Member States will discuss current issues of the Common Defence and Security Policy.

They will attend a working dinner with the NATO Secretary General, the UN Deputy Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations and the Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defence, during which they will discuss the challenges faced by the EU due to the interventions of state and non-state actors in the areas where the Union is operationally engaged.

The following day, the European Space Policy will be discussed and ways to ensure that the Union's security and autonomy with regard to its military capabilities are strengthened.

The meeting will conclude with a joint discussion with Foreign Ministers on the development of the Strategic Compass to guide the EU's common security and defence efforts in the coming years.
