[PIO] Participation of the Minister of Defence at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels

Defence Minister Vassilis Palmas participated in the official meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union (EU), which took place today in Brussels.

The first session of the meeting was devoted to the constitution of the European Defence Agency (EDA) Governing Board at the level of Defence Ministers. Ministers were briefed on the European defence industrial strategy and capability development programming, as well as on tangible results for Member States' defence needs.

At the subsequent Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Ministers were briefed on the current situation and support in Ukraine and discussed the future security commitments of the EU, as well as those of the Member States in the country.

During his stay in Brussels, the Minister held a meeting with EEA Executive Director Jiří Šedivý. During the meeting, Mr Palmas expressed the support of the Republic of Cyprus to the EEA and proposed a holistic approach to capacity building. Finally, he referred to the actions of the Ministry of Defence followed by an exchange of views on issues of concern to the Agency.
