The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr Maria Panayiotou, will leave for Brussels today, 14 January 2024, to participate in the Informal Council of Environment Ministers of the European Union (EU), which will take place on 15 and 16 January 2024.
The Informal Council will address the European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA) report to ensure that future EU policies can actively consider and assess the acceptable level of risk and inform the EU's next policy options.
Ministers will also have the opportunity to exchange views on the steps the EU should take to establish a more comprehensive and equitable transition policy to achieve climate goals, in a framework that fulfils the pledge to leave "no one behind" in this endeavour.
In addition, the Minister will attend a Council working lunch to discuss the strategic objective of achieving climate neutrality within the EU by 2050.
The second day of the Council will be dedicated to the topic of the Circular Economy, with the exchange of views focusing on the role that the Circular Economy and Resource Management are expected to play in shaping a coherent framework in the coming years, both within the EU and internationally.
