[PIO] Participation of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment in the EU Environment Council

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr.Petros Xenophontos, is leaving for Brussels today, 17 December 2023, where he will participate in the Council of Environment Ministers of the European Union (EU), which will take place on 18 December 2023.

The Council will discuss the new proposal for Regulations revising the Packaging Waste Directive in order to strengthen actions to prevent and reduce the production of packaging waste, promote high quality recycling and create a market for secondary raw materials, the new legal framework for soil monitoring, as well as the Forest Monitoring Regulation, which aims to create an integrated, high quality monitoring system that ensures a standardised monitoring system.

Finally, the Minister will attend a Council working lunch, where the main results of the European Scientific Advisory Council on Climate Change will be presented and the EU's climate targets for 2040 will be discussed.
