Councillor Savia Orphanidou, a member of the Cypriot delegation to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), will travel to Malta tomorrow to participate in the proceedings of the Regional Conference of Women Commonwealth Parliamentarians (BIMR), which will take place between 6 and 9 March 2024. Ms Orphanidou will be accompanied by International Relations Officer Marianna Kaissi.
With the overall theme of shaping strong women within social structures, the Conference will focus on the challenges faced by women within the Commonwealth, including, among others, the disproportionate impact of the cost of living on women and cultural and social inequalities and discrimination.

Also discussed will be methods of raising gender awareness in parliaments, measures to support women members of parliaments, and ways of encouraging women's involvement in political life. Orphanidou will participate the day after tomorrow in a discussion on the issues facing young women within the British Isles and the Mediterranean region, with the aim of creating an action plan to address them.
