The members of the Cypriot delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Mr. George Loukaides, Ms. Christiana Erotokritou and Mr. Kostis Efstathiou, will travel to Strasbourg the day after tomorrow, Sunday, to participate in the work of the 4th part of the 2023 session of the CSCE, between 9 and 13 October 2023. The delegation will be accompanied by Senior International Relations Officer Ms. Gabriela Marangou and International Relations Officer A of the Parliament Ms. Elena Persianis.
Topics that will be addressed at the Summit include, among others, far-right ideology and its impact on democracy and human rights, the Pegasus surveillance system and other similar spying systems, the role of the Council of Europe in preventing conflicts, regaining the credibility of international organisations and promoting world peace, preventing and combating violence against women, especially women with disabilities, and the instrumentalisation of the migration issue during elections. The humanitarian crisis for the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh is also expected to be discussed as a matter of urgency.
The Assembly will be addressed by the Latvian Foreign Minister Krišjānis Karinš, representing the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe during the current semester, the European Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Didier Reynders and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Ms Marija Pejčinović Burić.
