A delegation of the House of Representatives will travel to Ghana on Sunday 1 October 2023 to participate in the 66th World Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), which will take place from 2 to 6 October 2023. The delegation consists of Members of Parliament, Mr. Aristos Damianou (leader), Ms. Savia Orphanidou and Mr. Christos Orphanides. They are accompanied by the International Relations Officer A', Mrs. Loukia Moogi.
Under the general title "Ten years since the Commonwealth Charter: Principles and Values that Parliaments must uphold", the Conference will address issues including the role of parliaments in addressing the threat of terrorism, the role of the Commonwealth and especially of young people in global security and peace-building efforts, environmental approaches to addressing energy poverty, gender equality issues particularly through the implementation of quotas in parliaments and the digitisation of parliaments as a means of improving accessibility and transparency.
In addition, the nine regional sessions of the Association, the 66th CCA General Assembly, the 39th CCA Small Parliaments Conference and the awarding of prizes to various categories of Commonwealth Parliamentarians for 2023 will be held in parallel, among others, in the context of the work of the Conference.
