The 49th Session of the 49th Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (C.P.A.), hosted by the Parliament of Canada since July 5, 2024, concludes today. The House of Representatives is represented by Ms Alexandra Attalidou, MP.
During yesterday's proceedings, the Plenary Session unanimously approved the accession of the House of Representatives to the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly as an associate member.
In her intervention, Mrs Attalidou expressed her satisfaction with the membership of the House of Representatives in the Francophone C.C., pointing out, among other things, the place that the French language had in the history, culture and civilization of Cyprus and the contribution that the House of Representatives and Cyprus in general can make to the political community of Francophonie. Mrs Attalidou also stressed that the desire of the House of Representatives to join the C.C. Francophonie stems from the fact that Cyprus fully subscribes to the principles and values of Francophonie, such as democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Mrs Attalidou assured, finally, of the readiness of the Members of the House of Representatives to work closely with the C.C. Francophonie to address the multidimensional global challenges and to ensure peace, stability, equality, development and solidarity.
In addition, Mrs Attalidou participated in a meeting of the Women's Network of the C.S. Francophonie, where she informed, among other things, about the most recent legislation in Cyprus and other actions and activities aimed at promoting equality and ensuring women's rights in Cyprus.
