[PIO] Participation of the head of the Cypriot delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy in a visit of a delegation of the Assembly

Mr. Panicos Leonidou, head of the Cypriot delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy (IPA) and Member of the International Secretariat of the Assembly, attended on Monday an International Conference with the participation of parliamentarians and religious leaders, following an invitation by the Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Denis Zvizdic. The Conference, co-organized by the Parliament of the country and the Muslim World League (MWL), in the plenary hall of the Parliament, was aimed at establishing more effective dialogue and mutual understanding among participants to jointly address contemporary challenges and build peaceful coexistence in the world.

The IYO delegation, led by the Secretary General of the IYO, Greek MP Mr. Maximos Charakopoulos, had a meeting with the Secretary General of MWL Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa. They exchanged views on ways to strengthen cooperation between the two organizations, on the basis of common interfaith principles, to counter religious extremism and promote peace in the world. A meeting was also held with the Chairperson, Ms Snježana Novaković-Bursać, and members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina parliamentary delegation to the IOA, Mr Ljubica Miljanović and Mr Čedomir Stojanović. During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on strengthening relations between the Assembly and the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in particular with the country's Orthodox MPs.

In the framework of the visit, formal meetings were also held with the Bishop of Dubrovsnia, Mr. Chrysostomos and the Mayor of the city of Sarajevo East, Mr. Ljubiša Ćosić. Finally, the delegation visited places and monuments of religious and cultural interest.
