Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Ms Marilena Evangelou is participating today in the High Level Conference in Vienna, organised by the Austrian government, focusing on the importance of the family in society.

The conference brings together ministers of the European Union (EU) Member States responsible for designing and implementing policies aimed at supporting the family. The aim of the conference is to exchange good practices between Member States and to highlight family well-being policies as a priority pillar on the European agenda for the next five years.

[*]The subsidy through the State Grants Scheme to 134 childcare and education service providers with 3,5 million per year. [*]The operation of the Family Intervention and Support Centre for Autism which provides free services and support to all children, from the moment they are diagnosed on the autism spectrum, and their families. In her intervention, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare informed, inter alia, that the Cypriot Government has set as a high political priority the support of the family, as families are the foundation of every society and, therefore, need the best possible conditions in order to achieve positive social outcomes for education, security, social cohesion, development, protection, care, recovery and the continuation of the existence of society.

Finally, she pointed out that Cyprus remains committed to the continuation of these national programmes, expressing satisfaction with the role of the EU, which provides the tools and resources for child and family-centred policies.
