The Commissioner of Citizen Mr.Panagiotis Palates attended today, 25 June 2024, at the journalistic village in Pervolia, where he had a meeting and discussion with youth trainers, as part of the training seminar entitled "Explore ESC", following an invitation from the youth organization "Youth Dynamics".
The project involves 40 youth trainers, mentors and youth workers from eight European countries. The aim of the seminar is to introduce the participants to the European Solidarity Corps, to network among them and to exchange good practices on volunteering, community service and solidarity. The programme of activities includes open debates, lectures, simulations, working groups, study visits, experiential workshops and other non-formal learning methods.
The Commissioner spoke about the role and responsibilities of the Office of the Citizens' Commissioner and the importance of involving young people in volunteering and active citizenship. The open debate recorded proposals to promote volunteering and active citizenship, as well as concerns about democratic citizenship and the disdain it faces across the European Union, especially among young people. It is important to mention that proposals such as the mandatory inclusion of voluntary activity in public schools as well as proposals concerning the modernisation of democratic citizenship will be evaluated in cooperation with the relevant bodies.
The European Solidarity Corps is a European Union initiative that creates opportunities for young people who wish to volunteer or work on projects, in their own country or abroad, for the benefit of communities and individuals across Europe.
