MP Kyriakos Hatzigiannis participated yesterday, in Vienna, in a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).In the context of the work of the 21st Winter Meeting of the Assembly.
In the context of a discussion on developments in Ukraine, Mr Hatzigiannis condemned as unacceptable the military attack against Ukraine. He called on the parties involved to return to diplomacy and negotiation dialogue, expressing serious concern about the humanitarian impact of the conflict.
The current crisis, Mr.Hatzigiannis pointed out, is not local, but has wider global implications and, therefore, the entire international community must contribute to ending it.
Mr. Hatzigiannis stressed the need to protect the OSCE Special Observer Mission in Eastern Ukraine, both in terms of their personal safety and the role they play.
Also, in his intervention at a joint meeting of the three Committees of the C.C. OSCE, Mr. Hatzigiannis referred in particular to the extremely difficult situation in which the Ukrainian people find themselves. He appealed for an end to hostilities and stressed the urgent need to send humanitarian aid.
Moreover, on the sidelines of the Winter Meeting, Mr. Hadjigiannis, in his capacity as the OSCE CSO Special Representative for Civil Society Participation, held a meeting with Dr. Walter Rosenkranz, Member of the Austrian Board of Governing Commissioners. During the meeting, there was an exchange of views on the issue of civil society participation in the decision-making process.
