A delegation of the ReferNet Team of the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN) participated in the 21st Plenary Meeting of the European Network ReferNet for the Year 2024, which took place at the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) in Thessaloniki. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated for the first time in a ReferNet Plenary meeting, after assuming the role of National Coordinator of the Network under the new Framework Partnership Agreement 2024-2027.
The meeting lasted three days from 28 February 2024 to 1 March 2024, and was divided into thirteen thematic sections. All thematic modules were addressed to Network members, Vocational Education and Training (VET) specialists and experts, stakeholders and representatives of European Union (EU) institutions. The overall objective of the meeting was to provide an update on the latest developments in EU VET policy, the results of the 2023 work and the preparation of the 2024 workplan.
In more detail, the latest EU policy developments in VET, the progress made at EU level on the implementation of the European priorities in VET in the period 2020-2023, Cedefop's strategic planning, as well as specific issues related to early school leaving in VET, green job transitions and skills through an overview of green practices in European countries were presented. At the same time, Cedefop's policy-making tools such as OJA (European System for Collection and Analysis of Online Job Advertisement Data) and ESI (European Skills Index) were presented. Finally, the Plenary addressed issues related to the challenges in the implementation of the National Implementation Plans for VET, while discussions were held between the participating countries on the comparability and recognition of qualifications (non-formal and informal learning in VET).
The ReferNet team of Cyprus actively participated in all the work and discussions of the Plenary. Furthermore, it presented the example of the Public School of Higher Vocational Education and Training MIEEK as an example of good practice and as a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in a thematic round table discussion.
