The work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Parliamentary Meeting of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP28) concluded in Dubai. The meeting was attended by MPs Mr. Averof Neophytou and Ms. Alexandra Attalidou, head and member, respectively, of the Cypriot delegation to the IC.
On the sidelines of the IC meeting, the Cypriot MPs had a private meeting with Mr. Boriy Alikhanov, Member of the Senate of Uzbekistan. Present at the meeting was the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Arab Emirates Ms. Meropi Christofi.
From the Cypriot MPs' side, reference was made to the invasion and continued occupation by Turkey of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and our side's commitment to the objective of resuming negotiations to reach a solution in accordance with international law and the relevant UN Resolutions was underlined.
During the meeting, a common will was expressed to develop dialogue and cooperation between the Parliaments of Cyprus and Uzbekistan, both at the bilateral level and within the framework of international parliamentary organisations in which they participate.
Finally, the Cypriot parliamentarians highlighted the very important role that parliamentary diplomacy can play in efforts to effectively address contemporary challenges, including climate change.
