The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (M.P.A.N.) announces that today, October 2, 2023, 222 of the 228 Optional Day Schools (O.O.S.) have started operating. It is gratifying to note that the number of teachers whose employment status is differentiated from that of the service market (which has been abolished) to that of an employee is particularly high. This is fully in line with the forecasts and plans of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, which in June 2023 was promoting the institutionalization of this important change.
It is noted that the Ministry of Education is in communication with the Education Service Commission, which will make the necessary arrangements to fill gaps created by the non-acceptance of some of the part-time appointments, so that all schools can operate smoothly in the coming days.
The Y.P.A.N. continues its efforts to regulate any issues that have arisen, with the ultimate goal of the pedagogical upgrading, reconstruction and modernization of the institution of the all-day school and its smooth operation in all its aspects. At the same time, it calls for a dialogue between the Pancyprian Organization of Greek Teachers (P.O.E.D.) and organized parents for the exchange of views, in order to further improve the institution, as has already been announced.
On this occasion, sincere thanks are expressed to the teachers and the school managements, who have responded and continue to respond with consistency and professionalism, for the smooth and timely launch and operation of the institution of the P.
