The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced today, Sunday 10/09/2023 at 06:33, that the fire that started on Saturday 09/09/2023 at 13:28 near the Limassol State Forest, in an area of the Akrunda Community of Limassol District, is still ongoing.
By decision of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, following the recommendation of the Director of the Forestry Department, the Special National Plan Hephaestus was activated. The Plan provides for the convening of the Ministerial Crisis Management Team at the Zenon Coordination Centre, in order to deal with large forest fires.
The Ministerial Team consists of.) Minister of Transport, Communications and Works; and g) Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.
In addition, at first light, the Icarus II Plan, which concerns the operations of air assets, was reactivated.

During the night, strong ground forces operated during the night to deal with the raging fire on two fronts, east towards Kakomalli and west towards Kyparissia. So far the fire is estimated to have burned forest vegetation with an area of about 6.5 km2.
