The Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis paid an official visit to Cyprus today, following the holding of the First High Cooperation Council between Greece and Cyprus last November.
In the framework of his visit, he met with the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Mrs. Athena Michaelidou with whom they discussed issues of common interest, mainly the exchange of digital material in the context of the development of curricula and the strengthening of cooperation between the two ministries on the prevention of school violence and delinquency, the upgrading of technical and vocational education and training and the strengthening of higher education. At the same time, issues concerning Cypriot students studying in Greece were discussed and views were exchanged on how to achieve a more effective and immediate response to student problems.
Subsequently, the two Ministers co-signed a Cooperation Programme in the field of Education for the years 2023-2027, which lays even stronger foundations for broad cooperation on issues of mutual interest in the field of Primary, Secondary and Higher Education, providing the institutional framework for the exchange of experts, good practices and educational material, in the context of the modernization of the educational system and the digital transition.
In the margins of Mr. Pierrakakis' visit, a meeting was held with the Rectors of the Cypriot Universities to discuss issues related to the Higher Education sector.
Finally, Mr. Pierrakakis met with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, in the presence of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Mrs. Athina Michaelides, where the political will for changes in education through cooperation was reaffirmed.
