On Tuesday and Wednesday, 01 - 02 February 2022, the Chief of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, accompanied by a military delegation, paid an official visit to Cyprus, at the invitation of the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis.
General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili received an official reception at the General Headquarters of the General Staff of the National Guard (GHQ) and then had a meeting with the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis. Subsequently, he was briefed on the mission, the operational capabilities and the challenges faced by the AF, followed by extended contacts with the delegations of the military staffs of the two countries. Similarly, he had a meeting with the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petridis.
During the private meeting of the two Chiefs, they discussed current developments in the Eastern Balkans. Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf, as well as issues related to security and stability in the wider region. Furthermore, they discussed the common challenges faced by the two countries and explored ways of cooperation between their Armed Forces.
The Saudi Arabian Chief of Defence Staff was also received by H.E. the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, in the presence of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the National Guard.

The visit of the Chief of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces to Cyprus is part of the wide network of international cooperation that the National Guard has developed with the respective armed forces of friendly and allied countries, strengthening the dialogue for security and stability in the region.
