The Ministry of Health announces that today, 31 January 2022:
- 2 deaths were announced from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 733.
- 204 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 65 are in serious condition. A proportion of 76.36% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 20 post-COVID patients who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.
- A total of 137,680 PCR and antigen rapid tests have been performed.
- 3,396 (positivity rate: 2.47%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 256,746.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 2 deaths announced with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 relate to.
- Female, 77 years old, who died on 31 January in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital, Nicosia.
Consequently, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 733, of which:
- 458 males (62.5%), and
- 275 females (37.5%).
The average age of those who died from the disease is 76.3 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 204 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 65 are in serious condition or in PICU.
Of the 65 patients in serious condition, 31 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit outside of a ventilator and 30 in an Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 137,680 diagnoses performed, 7,025 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 130,655 by the antigen rapid test method, 3,396 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 38 cases from 247 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 54 cases out of 3,911 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 307 cases out of 2,275 samples taken through private initiative.
- 42 cases out of 334 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 1,853 cases from 68,222 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 1,096 cases out of 62,433 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
- 6 cases from 258 specimens obtained under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and screening of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
